Morgantown, WV – West Virginia University’s Football program is being charged with 5 major and 1 secondary NCAA violation. The rules violations allegedly took place from 2005 to 2009 and include student managers and others working with the players on their skills and techniques in violation of NCAA limitations. The allegations occurred under former coach Rich Rodriguez and current coach Bill Stewart, but Athletic Director Oliver Luck says WVU fully cooperates with the NCAA.

Vienna, WV – 12-year-old Preston Padden of Vienna brought home several gold medals from the USA Swimming Southern Zone Age Group Championships in Atlanta last week. Padden got the gold in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 400 freestyle. Padden will be a seventh-grader at Jackson Middle School and was one of three individuals representing the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Parkersburg, WV – Two Parkersburg South baseball players have been offered and accepted scholarships to West Virginia Conference schools. Matt Emerick, infield batter, will be heading to Fairmont State. Bryant Hooper, outfielder and pitcher, will go to Salem International. Family and Coaches looked on yesterday as both Emerick and Hooper signed their letters of intent.

Taking a look at your MLB scores, the Indians were defeated by the Boston Red Sox 6-2 yesterday and The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Colorado Rockies 5-1.
