Update 11-18-08

Ohio Valley University hosted a college basketball double-header last night. The Fighting Scots women’s team came up with a 89-75 win over Bluefield College while the men dropped their season opener to Lincoln Memorial 72-60

Ravenswood’s football team now knows where it will play this week. The 7th ranked team in class double A earned a spot in the second round of the playoffs and will take on 2nd ranked Grafton. However, Grafton school officials were worried about the condition of their field and asked Red Devil coach Dick Sturm to protest the location. The WVSSAC sent a committee to inspect the surface and decided it would suffice so the Red Devils are now slated to battle the Bearcats in Grafton Friday night at 7:30.

The Cleveland Browns survived a wild one in Buffalo as Phil Dawson hits 5 field goals including a career long 56 yarder with under 2 minutes to go giving the Browns a 29-27 win. The Bills had a chance to win but Rian Lindell missed a 47 yard attempt with 38 seconds left. Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards threw 3 interceptions in his team’s first 4 possessions which helped the Browns build a 13 point lead.

St. Louis Cardinal first baseman Albert Pujols picked up his second National League MVP award…beating out Ryan Howard from the Phillies who led the majors in home runs and RBI. Pujols, who also picked up the award in 2005, won despite playing for the 4th place Cardinals…the lowest since Andre Dawson won the MVP with the 6th place Cubs in 1987. The American League MVP is announced today.
