The 111th Congress begins work today, but two seats in the Senate have question marks surrounding them. Senate Democrats have said they won't seat Illinois appointee Roland Burris because he was appointed by embattled Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. Also, the Senate seat in Minnesota has still not been sorted out.

Arraignment is scheduled today for five Blackwater guards accused of gunning down unarmed Iraqi civilians. The men were indicted last month by a federal grand jury for allegedly firing automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenade launchers into a crowded Baghdad intersection on September 16th, 2007.

People seeking refuge from the Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip found none at a UN-run school. UN officials and medical workers say at least three people were killed today when the school was hit by an Israeli air strike. Hundreds of Palestinians sought shelter at the building after fleeing the northern Gaza Strip.

Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman may have eyes for the top political job in California. Whitman has resigned from three corporate boards, which would free her to run for governor of the state. Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger must leave office in 2010 due to term limits.

Authorities in Kansas are looking for a young man who vanished nearly ten years ago but wasn't reported missing until last month. Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy told CNN Adam Herrman was last seen in 1999 when he was ten or eleven-years-old. Murphy says his parents never reported him missing because the boy frequently ran away.

A job search site indicates people good with crunching numbers have a good employment outlook despite the struggling economy. CareerCast.com says mathematicians, actuaries and statisticians got the highest marks out of some 200 occupations because they command high salaries and face few job hazards and little stress.
